The Doge was deposed by Napoleon in 1790 and never returned.Since the 1830's, Venetian jewellers have been making their interpretations of the Crown for the Grand Tour visitors. This Ruby rich version is spectacular, set with 9 Diamonds, 3 Emeralds and 2 Rubies in the Crown and countless Rubies in the upper part, all in 18k Gold and the reverse with fine honey comb setting and a safety lock on the catch. There is a fitting at the top that might have held a pendant attachment. Original Venetian fitted case.

Sitting calmly and resembling Bestat, the much adored Cat Goddess of ancient Egypt and wearing a Rose Diamond collar and with her tail curled in a charming way. On one side, only visible with a loup, are the English import marks T & Co 750 and in the body recess is the Tiffany & Co 1989 mark. When not being worn, this little Cat can stand in a cabinet or on a shelf as a charming statuette.

The melting charm of this piece cannot be measured in ordinary jewellery terms. 4 little winged boys, Cupids, Putti, Amorini or whatever term you wish to use, cascade down from a small pair of whispering heads to to the largest smiling head, all with pairs of Gold Wings each with a central Rose Diamond. There is a French Gold mark for 18K on the catch and the reverse of the brooch is well constructed. There is a small unnoticed little chip on the right hand side cheek of the largest head. An utterly charming piece.

The Enamelled Flag has 42 Stars, each one representing a State and I am told that this number of States dates the Brooch to 1889. The Locket back opens to reveal 2 unglazed photo compartments and the Gold is unmarked and tests for 14k, the piece is in good condition and with the Enamel intact. I found the Flag in an English county antique fair so I assume that it was brought back to the UK by a family in the late 19th century and I hope it will make its return journey to the USA soon. A historical patriotic jewel.

This sweet little swallowtail is set with countless Rose Diamonds, two Sapphires two Emeralds, three Rubies and a central Old European Cut Diamond. The eyes and the terminals of the antennae are also set with Rose Diamonds. The reverse has a neatly soldered shut fitting that denotes that the jewel was once interchangeable with a double prong hair comb. Very pretty. Silver on Gold and all principal Gems are mounted in Gold. Burma Rubies, Colombian Emeralds, Ceylon Sapphires.

Pave set with Diamonds and calibre cut Black Onyx in an all Platinum mount with a Platinum security chain. The design represents a Horseshoe Nail, a very lucky symbol in France and other parts of Europe as is the Horseshoe itself. The maker,Jean Despres, also made jewellery for Cartier and this Jabot Pin looks to be of their high standard.
Stamped at the head of the pin is an Alsations Head mark which is the French Governments guarantee for Platinum and the makers mark JD.

Demantoid Garnet Diamond Platinum Gold Spider Brooch, with ten Demantiod Garnets mounted in yellow Gold and the abdomen pave set with Diamonds mounted in Platinum and with black enamel eyes. There are a further sixteen Diamonds mounted in the legs and this spider is a very well modeled and a naturalistic representation and makes good use of the brilliant grass green Demantiod Garnets which are amongst the world's rarest gemstones.

On the reverse is a substantial twelve strap Gold brooch mount and I am told that the Shells are called NeoTrigonia and are scarce enough to be prized as gifts for lovers. In fact it must have been quite expensive to make this Brooch with so much Gold and two Diamonds.
