Hello,
I’m Sue Brown. Thank you for visiting my Website where I have many interesting rings to show you, plus other slightly ‘different’ items of jewellery to which I refer to as:
QUIRKY JEWELS FROM THE PAST
How long have I been in my cherished business? Since 1974 with a small unit in Grays Antique Centre in London, but now I only show my pieces at certain quality antique fairs and here on my website. I am the sole owner of my business, the buyer and the seller and I am totally responsible for the authenticity, description and genuineness of any article of jewellery I sell, whether it is on my website, or any Antique Fair at which I display. Look for me at Olympia, the LAPADA Antique Fair in Mayfair and the Palm Beach Art and Antique show in the USA as well as other select events in the UK and USA. John, my manager, is able to answer any questions or emails on my behalf, should I not be here to take your call.
So where did I learn my business? Well, like many other of my jewellery dealer contemporaries, in the busy and booming London street markets of Portobello, Bermondsey and Camden Passage. This was an exciting time for me, having arrived in the UK in 1971 and had not seen anything like this before. I am saddened to say that Camden is a shadow of its former self and Bermondsey is a tenth of its former glory and Portobello is under threat from creeping fashion outlets, so where to buy?? Online on certain websites that carry return guarantees, from dealers that you have grown to trust and from prime vetted Antique Fairs which will confirm the authenticity of their dealers merchandise.
I hope you enjoy my website and if you find something that interests you, please enquire, without any obligation, by email or telephone, to find out more about the item and to be sure it is still available.

Three Colour Gold and Silver Lute Brooch, circa 1885
Regular price $ 5,800.00A beautifully detailed lute brooch depicting a daily life scene of a Japanese lady. The body of the lute shows a lady holding a parasol while gracefully leaning over a balcony, gazing into her garden filled with flowering trees and sakura blossoms. On the head of the lute is the face of another woman staring coyly at the viewer.
The strings and pegs of the lute are in red gold while the body of the lute is in yellow gold. On the front of the lute is a thin silver layer that has been inlaid and carved with various different colors of gold to depict the daily life scene. A similar technique has been used on the head of the lute to depict the face of the woman. This form of carving and inlaying on a silver base strongly resembles the traditional Japanese art of shakudo work.

Unusual 18 Karat Gold and Diamond Bangle by Puig Doria of Barcelona
Regular price $ 5,400.00Made in the 1970's in thick 18k Gold, the hands are modelled in the Cubist manner, with angles and planes and without curves, rather like a Soviet era poster. The upper hand holds a Diamond between thumb and index finger and the other hand, virtually unseen except from the reverse, clasps the upper hand in pleasure for the gift of a Diamond, so I would call this an Engagement Bangle and why not?
A plate in the reverse reads PUIG DORIA 750.
Condition: Fabulous!
Diametre: 5.5 cm 2 1/4 ins
Weight: 36.5g Diamond: 40 points
Origin: Spanish
circa 1970

Tiffany & Co. Fine Carved Coral Gold Ring
Regular price $ 5,500.00This is an extraordinary design and I have no idea of the influences which contributed to the creation of this amazing Ring. Suggestions have been Russia, India and Burma but only Tiffany archives would know. The Tiffany and 18k marks are well hidden underneath the bezel on either side, almost as if they did not want anyone to know that they made the Ring. Perhaps it was a special order!

Hello,
I’m Sue Brown.
Ernst Paltscho Angel Skin Coral, Chrysophrase, Enamel & Diamond Flower Brooch, circa 1920
Regular price $ 12,000.00Stunning floral brooch by the Viennese master jeweler Ernst Paltscho. Two pieces of angel skin coral are meticulously carved as flower petals, which swing as the wearer moves. Within the petal sits a gold and enamel stamen peaking out. The stem of the flowers is composed of silver-set rose diamonds attached to a black enamel branch. The leaf of the brooch is made of carved chrysophrase inset with a brilliant-cut diamond. The back of the brooch is signed with the name of the designer (E. Paltscho) and the city of origin (Vienna), there are several gold marks stamped onto the back of the brooch. The brooch comes in a fitted case, which it neatly slips into.
Ernst Paltscho (1858-1929) founded the firm in 1899 in Vienna, Austria. Commissioned by the Greek Royal House, he was also patronized by many of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. His son Erwin joined the firm in 1918, and continued the business after his father's death. In 1964, Paltscho was the sole Austrian firm to exhibit at the International Exhibition in New York. Paltscho became famous for their colorful carved hardstone jewels. For another example by Paltscho see C. Gere (et.al.), The Art of The Jeweller, A Catalogue of The Hull Grundy Gift to the British Museum, Vol. I, p. 190, no 1178 and Vol. II, p. 319, no. 1178 and color plate 63.
