Small Ancient Roman Amethyst Intaglio of the God Mercury in a Later Gold Ring
The slightly cabochon stone portrays Mercury wearing his winged helmet and standing with his cloak at his neck and coursing down his back. His right arm is outstretched and resting across a column and he is holding a platter upon which is a pomegranate. To the left of the column is a partly obscured crouching goat. Mercury's upper torso has a fine polish and the ancient stone is in good condition.
